About Our Shed

Our Mission

To combat isolation, loneliness and depression in the community by providing a place where people can come together to build lasting social connections and enjoy a variety of activities.

How We Got Started

In July 2024, the idea for a local community shed started to take shape and a steering committee was formed after a public meeting in September. Support quickly came together from within the community, not only to help establish the shed, but also with a great deal of enthusiasm for the activities that would eventually become available.

The shed was incorporated and became a legal entity in October 2024. The local government, Shire of Plantagenet, generously offered land for a new shed at adjacent to the Kendenup Tennis Courts.

With a solid financial base now established, the limitations of our temporary shed at 175 Smuts Road have become apparent. Our new shed team is working towards the construction of a new shed, hopefully in the latter part of 2026 and is seeking grant funding to ensure this happens.

Our Objectives

  • Provide a safe, happy environment for men and women to meet and pass time constructively
  • Promote social interaction and mutual support
  • Encourage men and women to take action to look after their own mental health
  • Tackle isolation and loneliness issues within the community
  • Share skills and knowledge
  • Assist the community in the form of community projects
  • Support other groups and organisations with specific projects
  • Encourage a sense of pride and purpose in life
  • Provide a venue for other groups to hire for events

"Just A Farmer" transcends traditional cinema, authentically portraying the challenges and triumphs of a resilient farmer in rural Australia. This cinematic journey amplifies the often-overlooked voices of rural communities and sheds light on mental health struggles. It's more than a movie; it's a dedicated movement creating awareness, dismantling stigmas, and impacting the well-being of rural Australia.
