Building a Strong Community

Through shared experiences our members make friends, build emotional support networks and develop a sense of belonging while facilitating a willingness to communicate, (often uncommon in men). Member’s health and wellbeing particularly in terms of preventative health, is perhaps the greatest benefit.

At the KCMS we provide an environment where productivity and being of value to the community enhances self-worth develops a sense of meaning and purpose often lost as result of retirement, the loss of a loved one, job loss, or hardship.

Building Fund

The KCMS Inc. currently operates from a private shed under a peppercorn lease. Although the shed would not exist without its existing home and utilities being provided by its founder, the shed is too small. Fortunately, the Plantagenet Shire has allocated land for the construction of a 450 sq. metre purpose-built facility. This will enable us to reach our full potential and offer a much broader range of activities. However, for this to happen we must raise approximately $400,000! While we will seek grant funding we need your help.

Start a men's shed

Starting a men’s shed from scratch takes determination, imagination, persistence, teamwork and many months of hard work but the good news is it is rewarding, lifechanging and worthwhile. There are plenty of resources to help you through the process but the first thing you should do is talk to someone who has “been there, done that” several times. Call our Secretary/Founder Alan and have a chat on 0499000175.

Men’s Shed Guiding Organizations

The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.

Men’s Sheds of WA supports over 180 men’s sheds throughout the state of WA, ranging from Albany in the west to Broome in the north. Men’s sheds play an incredibly important role in the WA community.

We’re here to:

  • foster the development and sustainability of men’s sheds in Western Australia.
  • advocate on behalf of Sheds to government, private, and community sector organisations.
  • provide opportunities for bringing Sheds together to share and learn.

We exist only through the efforts and commitment of volunteers from sheds around WA, along with the support and funding from the Department of Communities and Lotterywest.
